There are numerous nearby archaeological sites, many dating to the Iron Age and earlier.
Ennis Parish records began in 1837 (marriages) and 1841 (baptisms).
The records contain over 12,500 Baptismal entries and 2,960 Marriage entries.
The work of recording the Index Books of other Parishes is on- going.
The material will be of interest to the local community and to genealogists much further afield.
Musicians associated with Doolin, who have lived there or played in its pubs, include Micho Russell and his brothers Packie and Gussie, Sharon Shannon, Davy Spillane, and Steve Wickham of The Waterboys.
Doolin is the main setting for the 2007 Play Station 3 game Folklore.
It is important to remember that even in the best kept Parish Registers it is estimated that there was up to 30% omission rate.
The dates shown are baptism dates, which normally took place within days of the birth.
As well as serving as an accommodation centre for visitors to the major climbing area of Ailladie, a short drive away, Doolin has its own less-popular sea-cliff rock-climbing area, with about 18 routes recorded.
