I suppose in 15 years time, there will be music fans in their 20s & 30s despairing, wondering why kids don't understand how relevant and incredible One Direction were... I always thought of the Beatles as something that is for older people.

I post on another forum, and I'm friends with some of them to the point that we have group MSN conversations. We were having a discussion about girl groups earlier today, and their collective thoughts on the Spice Girls were utterly depressing.

They just , and quite frankly don't want to get it.

I was only born in 1997 and grew up being a hardcore Spice Girls fan, it's depressing to see my friends opinions on them being 'old and wrinkly' at the Olympics.

I listen to other girl groups but still know they have absolutely nothing on the Spice Girls. I was only born in 1997 and grew up being a hardcore Spice Girls fan, it's depressing to see my friends opinions on them being 'old and wrinkly' at the Olympics.

But hey Madonna is the same age as my mom and I'm okay with that.

They will grow and start to appreaciate them as an image of the past as something classic.

Girl bands I prefer: Sats, GA, Atomic Kitten, Sugababes, Stooshe, Little Mix, PCD, All Saints, Appleton, Mis-Teeq, Destiny's Child, Booty Luv.""Well from my point of view they were largely unspectacular.

The only song of theirs I particularly love is Spice Up Your Life.""Spice Girls were bubblegum pop. Bubblegum pop just isn't my thing.""I love bubblegum pop but what I've heard of the Spice Girls just doesn't do it for me""The spice girls are like watching paint dry"... I had to stop talking to them about the Spice Girls, and let the conversation move on to something else.

Their music makes me feel good and when they are together. I think the Spice Girls is something you had to be there for to truly get it tbh.

Like the fan that sed they were born in 97, they love the girls but even they won't fully understand how crazy it was to walk into your local shop and instantly see Spice Girls chocolates, Spice Girls lollipops, Spice Girls drinks, Spice Girls bubble gum, Spice Girls crisps, Spice Girls deoderant, Spice Girls on the front of all the newspapers and then Spice Girls on all the magazines on the shelf and then to go home and see them on the news and hear people around me just mention them in passing. They dislike Sugababes and Atomic Kitten but they do love the Spice Girls. The next day to Olympics my social network was full of the pictures of the Girls with the comment like 'awww finally'.

I understand that it's probably a generational thing, but it absolutely amazes me that people who like pop music, more specifically the girl band genre, could have zero appreciation for the Spice Girls!
